Pioneer Trek 2008

Sterling got to go on a Trek for our stake last week and had an awesome experience. She and 150 other kids and adults pulled handcarts 40 miles in 4 days. On the 4th day they came into camp which was a grassy campground on the church farm with trees and we had a celebration that lasted about 10 hours. They had field games, the temple grounds, a bath house, the smith shop, etc. Blaine and I were asked to help with the field games and were in charge of archery, the tomahawk throw, sack races, 3-legged races, and the ma and pa calling contest. We were at the end of the park where the kids came in after there long trek in the desert in 85-90 degree weather. As each family came in they gave a cheer that said and excuse my spelling Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah for Israel, and then they would line up with the others and cheer the next families to come in. As the last family came in they all broke into singing on the Spirit of God. Blaine and I were just setting up our area when all this was going on and WOW! It was such an overwhelming feeling of the spirit. I cannot wait to return to heaven and be greeted with my family and loved ones again after my journey here on earth. Here is just a couple of pics of Sterling and our neighbor girl before they left. Sterling was the hero on the women's pull when the men got called off to war and they had to pull there handcarts up a pretty significant hill which should be called a mountain. She also made almost all of her clothes and bag for the trek. I am really proud of her.

You did a great job on her outfit, I think mom helped a little right, and Sterling? How cool that she got to do the trek, I never had that opportunity! Mitch said that was one of his greatest memories as a youth!
